KENNEDY TRENGROVE
BLOG
I am Kennedy Trengrove, a Fremantle-based writer of adult fiction. I was born in Perth and attended uni here before spending ten years in the scenic gloom of Victoria. I have also lived for five years in a lovely little West Australian country town which was suspiciously like the one in my book (see below).
I have always loved reading novels so, after a career in a government department, I dived into writing. They say that when you find what you really love to do you will never work a day in your life. Except when I am copy editing, it often feels that way. Until a few months ago, my beloved dog Sugar often lay sighing melodramatically at my feet as I typed and muttered – until she got bored and went out to charm the neighbours.
My interests are many and diverse but the one closest to my heart is relaxing in nature and watching wild animals and birds do what they do best. Like many people these days, I am very concerned about the state of the planet we are leaving to the next generations. I have just discovered a German word, weltschmerz, which apparently means a state of feeling deep unease about how the world is going. I do feel it. But my old dad taught me to face life with humour so I write with my tongue in my cheek, which is difficult when you’re laughing at your own ideas. My novel, Down to Earth, is a cheerful exploration of where we might be going if we don’t wake up in a hurry. And a love story too.
